I am looking for ways to increase my YouTube subscribers but surprisingly not finding much...am I looking in the wrong place or is Google/YouTube good at preventing this type of activity?

You can buy subscribers from the SMM panels here on BHW marketplace. If you want to have a bot, the get ready with shit ton of YT accounts and the constant battle with YT updates.
