I am just wondering instead of purchasing a new domain, why not create a subdomain and then do SEO in that keyword related to that sub domain.I want to know if that sub domain rank higher or not
subdomains and directories rank the same. also depends on your order in regard to effectiveness.
Example: "popular.diets.com" would be a great subdomain as opposed to something like "diets.popular.com". Order counts in my experience and split testing.
Subdomain or directory are no different in terms of SEO and ranking... But they may be suited for different purpose with your niche... Try both combination and see which is more appealing for your niche....
All the data points to subdomains not performing as well as a TLD. They will take longer to index&rank, but you do have that keyword advantage. Difference between using a dir vs. a sub though is that the subdomain will be like a site in itself, whereas the dir will still be subject to all the benefits/penilties the TLD offers.
