Do Social Media Strategies Still Work Long Term?

With platforms changing so often, I’m curious how members here view the long-term effectiveness of social media strategies.
Are most approaches short-term, or do some still hold up over time?

Interested to hear different perspectives.

Most social strategies look short-term because people treat them like hacks instead of systems. In my experience, anything built purely on trends or algorithms fades fast. What does hold up is audience understanding, knowing who you’re talking to, what problem you’re solving, and showing up consistently in a recognizable voice. Platforms change, behavior doesn’t. If your strategy is rooted, it survives algorithm updates.

That depends on different phases, to start rising karma there's a way to have people follow your accounts. Other way to achieve your real goal. In my views, I'm very good at rising fans but still learn how to make money. Anyway I think it's long term.

From my experience, most tactics are short-term, but the underlying principles still hold long-term. Platforms and features change, but strategies built around understanding the audience, delivering consistent value, and encouraging real engagement tend to survive algorithm updates. Short-term tactics can give spikes, but sustainable growth usually comes from adaptable fundamentals rather than chasing every new trend.

Post trending Reels. They get good exposure. This is good in case you have a model and want to get good exposure as soon as you post (within 12-36 hours). Trending songs is also another one aswell.
