Do SEOs focus too much on links?

In our industry it's impossible to rank without backlinks. I mean many many links.

I think you will see here a lot of opinions on this matter, but personally I think that if you want to create a good product you should keep developing all these aspects + good content.
 
Both are very important but if you had to pick which is most important, then backlinks have a slightly heavier weight. If you an optimized page but without good backlinks, it is difficult to rank well. If you have good backlinks but under-optimised page, you still have chance to rank well for less competitive and longer tail keywords.
 
My friend, we can not choose any one of them as both are important. So, keep focusing on both.
 
Focus on Driving traffic than ON OFF SEO I'm sure your website will automatically pop up for ranking not linkbuiding for Shit Authority or link f*cks.
 
Focus on both factors with added importance for QUALITY. Not all backlinks may give the same result and the same applies for on-page SEO as well. Hold them tight, both of em.
 
Both things are important. Content and links. For some non competitive keywords you can rank without links if your domain has authority, if it's a well-established brand and etc.
 
I think on page SEO optimization is quite more important, because at first you should to this. After that you can create backlinks.
 
On page SEO and Backlinks are the most important factors in SEO. If your backlinks are from high DA then i think it should be get more traffic and get ranked if on page is proper.

Yes, SEO focuses on the links and also on the content so that it gives the rank on the search engine.

For whitehat sites, it makes a lot of sense to focus on content a lot. Not only creating content based on directly monetizable keywords, but building mini assets that reside within your site. Find topics that are niche relevant yet capable of surprising people. Pay attention to formatting and rich media. Articles like that are very linkable and can garner natural backlinks without having to lift a finger. It takes a lot of time though but is still a good idea if not to diversify your link building strategy.
