I've an interview tomorrow, for an SEO agency and I'm doing a small portfolio of what I do, my linking strategies and tools I use. WOuld it be a good idea to put that I use SEO tools like SeNuke and Sick Submitter, or will they see this a negative?

Thoughts please.

I know that there are agencies that do, But I wouldn't count on it. My suggestion, bullshit your way through with things like "link-bait" and "content people want to share" at least until you get in there. Just read a couple of rand fishkins post.

But to get back to the point, No I don't think it would be a good idea to bring the use of those tools up.

Heck yes tell them the software your familiar with . The self righteous feckers agency that says they dont use software like that are fecking liars man, way to make them self looks bigger and screw clients out of more money.

I seen bigger agency in my town and you would not believe they buy from fiverr, says more to righteous agency oh we only do WHITE ASS. WHITE ASS my foot, if they do they will be out of fecking jobs.

I know several of my so called competitors in town are almost 100% Automated.

I think it depends on the agency. If I were you, I would first feel them out and get a feel for they link build with their clients. Maybe take a neutral stance on everything until you can get deep enough in the conversation to figure out how aggressive they are with their clients.

I know of agencies that do both, so your best bet is to first find out what they do. One tactic you might want to do is see if you can go on their website and view the portfolio of their clients. If they list some of their clients, you can do a backlink check on the clients website and examine their link portfolio. If they have a bunch of spammy links, etc. then you could probably make the educated guess that they would be more open to automated tools. Hope that helps!

What RightInTwo just said... stay neutral!

Explain how you've experience and well aware of them, but depending on the campaign and the type of client you have, you may or may not use them.

Tons of SEO agencies use these types of software. I had an interview with a company yesterday as well and they tried convincing me that they don't use any automated software. I find that very hard to believe for obvious reasons (after analyzing some of their client's sites I found).

But as to whether you should tell them, I think it all depends on how you present it. If you say you used SENuke to blast competitor sites with junk links in an attempt to get them de-indexed, they're probably not going to like that you're unethical. But if you tell them that you're familiar with the software and have working knowledge of how to use it in a positive way for your sites, they'll be impressed.

this was going to be my tactic. I was going to explain that I have had experience using them in the past when ranking my own websites but as far as clients websites are concerned, I use manual link building.

Interview is in 4 hours, wish me luck :)

Remember: Tools are just that... Tools.

They're NOT the 'strategy' itself.

Any tool can used well or badly; it depends on your understanding of SEO and how you apply it.

Picture it like a hammer; would you use a sledgehammer where you need a tack-hammer? But both are the appropriate tools in the right context.

Any large SEO agency (mine included) will use every quality tool they can get their hands-on; but they'll use it well (hopefully!) and in the light of their experience, testing and analysis. And of course, anyone worth their salt will also have their own bespoke tools and in-house software as well.

Too many people see the tool as the strategy and just sit their clicking buttons, hoping for the best!

you should tell them that you are familiar with the tools and you can use them properly. but you don't use them for your personal websites. If any client demand to use tools then you provide that service.

I think, you should tell them that you are exposed to those tools - just let them know that you have the knowledge if they what you to use them.

Then again, to use those tools on client's project is different question -

I can tell you the biggest agencies in Britain use scrapebox, so you might as well be honest because I think they all use blackhat tricks. At the end of the day, it is how you use these and whether they bring success

It won't tarnish your image if you expose all your expertise. Hope it would end in a positive note.

It's not the tools that matter, its what you know as an SEO. For example you can have scrapebox but your strategy is not to spam comments but to find High Quality blogs to comment on. It's still the same tool but your strategy is what matters.

So instead of talking about what you know about a tool, talk about what you know in SEO strategy. Then you can talk about how the tool helps you achieve this faster and more efficiently.

The real agencies use custom made softwares... senuke and others are for home made agencies ;)

I wouldn't mention these tools (until they don't pay for them). I would rather write about different analysers like semrush or ahrefs etc.

I work in a SEO agency and I have a supervisor who frowns upon automated tools like SenukeX. My advice would be to do things the ethical way and test the water. See which way your supervisor goes and go that way. And besides, going the right way never hurt anyone. Doing things the unethical way would be frowned upon immediately if your supervisor is a stick in the mud
