Not really. Usually it's just a backstory that's part of a fake guru's marketing plan.
I am impressed with Charlie Munger's backstory because it's a true legitimate rags to riches story from a man who had nothing and no one at 30 and became a billionaire and didn't give up. He isn't using this story though to sell anything nor is he trying to get your money.

Yeah 100%. I like hearing about people who had something different about their mentality which led to success where 1,000,000's of people with the same cards being dealt did nothing significant.
I actually love hearing about people that have really fucked up lives and massively outperform people that have normal lives, esp with so much of the world being wishwashy, fake and full of bullshit in 2020. Those people are legit, and the rest of the world could learn a lot from how they think.

To some degree, it is motivating.
But mostly I get depressed and wish I was that focused and mentally strong to accomplish so much.
