I'm setting up a domain name, and this is a quick question;

Domain names now allow for something like; thisisa.website rather than having to go for thisisawebsite.com

1) Are thisisa.website SEO friendly domain names
2) If thisisawebsite.com is taken and i took thisisa.website, will .com take presence in SEO?

Thanks to all that get involved :)

In general you always prefer the .com, just to be on the safe side. Nowadays there are many new domain extensions such as .website, and it is a bit of a gamble (at least to me) to know how well they will do from a SEO standpoint. Google had said if my memory is correct, domain extensions do not matter in their algorithm (but they lie sometimes).
So as always in SEO, the choice is yours. SEO is made of personal choices, such as this.

Thank you; my functionality is i'd prefer to make sure i HAD the .com, .org, .co.uk available, as well, when i last did a website, having all of these not only protects your brand, but helps increase views. Nether-the-less it's been a decade since i last got in to the deep waters of SEO/Website building.

In general for domain selection, you have to use creativity, originality, imagination, and of course spend a lot of time just to know what is available. In this matter google themselves were masters of that game a long time ago when they picked their domain name, which ironically was a typo.

Really? That is news to me; don't tell me, they meant Goggle?

They meant googol, which is the number 10 power 100.
Here the beauty of the story is they mistakenly registered google, and this is now a verb in the dictionary. So this tells you why originality may put you on the winning side when it comes to picking a domain name.

I would still go for .com domains, as much as I can. There are other ways on how you can nail your SEO goals and the domain name isn't the sole controllable you can attend to.

I think those are the latest trendy domain names released by the registrars - they have so many trendy names out nowaways, so many choices.
Well, I believe modern day SEO applies to every type of domains, except a local TLD domain extension, like .co.uk. The local domain extensions are favored for local seo and you get to rank those quickly and easily for local traffic instead.
Otherwise, the trendy extensions vs .com , .net , .org, they are more or less the same.

It's personal preference, though most people still favour a .com, .org or .co.uk ( if you're from the UK ), but it's easy to outrank a yourkeyword.com with any other TLD if their onpage etc is crap.
