Wanted to get some opinions on this. I have a campaign about to run on FB. There are currently 120 diff ad sets ready to go, but some of them are set to target ages 13-19. I know when i was a kid, nobody under 18 was making purchases online. Has anyone done any tests on this? Surely some teens have CC's and paypals, and are likely to make purchases because its all expendable income to them. Or is it absurd to target that age range? Any thoughts would be great!

There's only one way to find out, run the ad, if within a certain duration of time you do not see conversions, change the age requirements so that your ad will only be displayed to older users.

I am from India and online shopping here on its peak now a days.Every teenagers(below 18) have their Facebook account and from their they reach to online shopping website what they like on Facebook post.As we all know, every teenager loves to do shopping so I must say they will definitely do once they like any product;they have debit/credit card these days. :) So it would be very good if you started one campaign on Facebook.
Great Luck!!!

When I was under 18, I used to make purchases online, although almost all of the products were related to my laser hobby (circuit boards, laser drivers, diodes, etcetera). It's not absurd at all to try targeting that demographic since many teens are trying to become more independent, which includes making independent purchases. If anything, the younger teens can always get their parents to purchase the products for them.

Many of the teens would just browse the product and buy it physically. But it really depends on the geographic location you are targeting.

Yes and no. Same to the question. Do adults purchase online? Yes and no. Online shopping has been growing and growing. However it must be noted that there are things people will always buy online now. And some things that people will not buy online - maybe a big purchase or something expensive that they will want to deal with a real person. You have to think is it a purchase that an under 18 would make online routinely. If it's cheap, something bought over and over from trusted sites then yes they probably do make a lot of online purchases. A lot of banks are now creating specific accounts for teens ( at least they are here in the uk) this is in direct response to teens having more disposable income and also a want for independence in managing their own personal finances. This means they have the card and therefore the means to make online purchases. I think it would be relatively safe to run some ad tests on this market segment.

yea, this is a digital good. Its a product teenagers are def interested in, just wasnt sure whether they had the means to make online purchases. AKA a CC or paypal account

If you have credit card, then You can buy. I think most kids have some card in their teenager time ;)

I guess since im about to be 27, i got my first debit card at 15, and I was def one of my first friends to have one. I forget that 12 years later, Im sure MANY kids of CC's or debit cards

I believe they would buy from their guradians cards and details !!

one of the ad sets I have ready to go is ages 13-19, Im thinking of at least changing it to 16-19

Dont know about purchases But yeah they fill cpa offers for silly things.

yea nothing new there...as stated in the OP im curious about purchasing. I was hoping maybe someone here had done some tests in the past themselves

No testing here on my part... but I think 16 to 19 would be the place to start and then lower it after awhile to see if sales increase. I do know that quite a few employers are either going to direct deposit only or even issuing a re-loadable debit card for employees to receive their paychecks.

That means more working teenagers have access to debit cards and are likely to be itching to input that number for online purchases. 16 is the minimum age to work in the U.S. without a special permit (at least in my state).

Just remember you gotta try to think like a teenager when making those ads and landers and who the hell knows what goes through their heads these days...... Good luck.

I did some split testing on this about 3 or 4 years ago so my experience is not really "fresh" but still It might be helpful to you :). I was too promoting a digital product (ebook guide about farmville which was a huge hit at the time) .Getting those teens to buy it via paypal was a pain I did get some conv but nothing to brag about. So i decided to try with micro-payments(sms) and those wore converting like crazy every teen has a cellphone these days and they dont really care for the price of the SMS since their parents foot the bill. Point being if your product is on the cheap side ($3-$10) you might want to consider giving sms billing a try.

I used fortumo back in the day but they switched their business model since then and from why i see they no longer offer the service so not really :( Junglepay.com offer something similar but I never used their service. The trick here is to find a processor that will allow you to put the actual price of the SMS in the terms of the offer or in the sites footer as far as possible from what the regular visitor usually reads :D.Some sms gateways open the buy screen in a popup where the prices is way too visible for my taste so i would avoid those.

16-19 seems fine to me , as far as I know almost all developed countries do allow their citizens have a bank account once they turn 16 , another thing you gotta keep in mind is that bambinos also do use their mom's or daddy's cards sometimes ,
so give it a try
