Honestly, I just can't help but wonder if people are still using opencart nowadays.

You think there might be hope for them? I mean... Shopify literally makes them a living dead. I really hope they get their traction again

Yeah, people still use Opencart, but it’s not as popular as it used to be. A lot of newer stores moved to Shopify or WooCommerce because they’re easier for non technical users, and the plugin ecosystems are bigger.
That said, Opencart still has a loyal user base, especially among developers and store owners who want a lightweight system without monthly fees. I also see it used a lot in countries where self hosted solutions are preferred for cost reasons.
If someone already knows PHP and wants full control, it still does the job. But for beginners, most will probably pick WooCommerce or Shopify today.

people still use it, but mostly out of choice rather than trend. it makes sense if you want full control, no monthly fees, and you’re comfortable managing hosting and updates yourself.
shopify kind of won the convenience battle, so most new store owners go that route. opencart feels more common with devs or in regions where self hosted is preferred.
