Yeah parasites are still relevant if they are good, most of the time they rank higher than competitors' sites

Yes, they are still works. Try to create parasites with more random properties as Google learned how to easily spot them.

Yeah ignore subdomain ones though. Use ones that leverage ranking power of the domain, like Facebook or Pinterest or Reddit.

If you're making a quality PBN, don't waste it on the parasite, use it on the money site.
Parasites work, but you get out of them what you put into them, like a PBN. The better and more content you put, the more it helps. Same with links and social sharing.
Benefit of parasite is that you can hit them hard with links, including links of dubious quality. Drawback is that they don't carry the same weight as a standalone domain.

What do you mean by, "don't carry the same weight"?
Surely the fact that the parasite domain is a high trust domain means that they carry more weight with google?
Or do you mean that they are less likely to convert customers?

Parasites do work with the some social signals twist! I still love youtube and some related forum to rank things based on my priority..
If you guys know about reputation management I'd say parasites are the only way to roll off the competitors from 1st page.

Reputation management is an easy task since keywords are easy... few of twitter / facebook profiles and pages are enough for that...
One of the little secret to discover if you can rank through a parasite easily is to just spend 5 minutes making/downloading any video and upload it on youtube on your specified keyword. And check if it appears within 50 spots after getting indexed.
For commercial keywords you will need few foundation of Web 2.0s and add few PBNs to work.
