Linking to authority sites is often suggested as a best practice, but some argue it leaks link juice. I’m curious—do outbound links to trusted resources actually help rankings, or is it more about building trust and relevance for the user? What’s your personal experience?

Great question. Outbound links to trusted, relevant sites don’t directly boost rankings the way backlinks do, but they can help SEO indirectly by:


Improving user experience (giving users more context and value)Building topical relevance (showing Google what your content is about)Increasing trust signals, especially if you’re citing reputable sources


As long as you’re linking naturally and not excessively, outbound links are more helpful than harmful. Just avoid linking to low-quality or spammy sites.

If you do it in limit, it will help in increasing rankings.

From my experience, linking out to trusted resources does a few things:

So for me, it’s less about “losing link juice” and more about strengthening the page as a whole
 
If it's a guest post, it's important to have at least 1 internal link, and 1 external link to an authority site. This way, you make it look natural in the eyes of viewers and search engines.

If it's content on your site, you can just do this once in a while, your internal links are enough to show what the content is all about.
 
People do it to look natural but it is indeed a waste most of the time.
