Do not use CNET!!

that's sad, cnet was THE primary provider of shareware downloads for the longest time
once upon a time (1994-1995ish until mid 2005-2007) that site was download.com and was the authority to go to to get whatever you needed
then they started shitting all over the place

CNET was one of my favourite sites to use for public downloads up until a couple of years ago...I hadn't used it for some time, but once I came back and tried to use it to download some freeware apps, it was full of spam and garbage. I was lucky in that there wasn't anything too unmanageable in my download, but I've read (and heard) horror stories from people who have gotten viruses from some of the files they host. It's pretty sad, really...it used to be such a trustworthy platform for downloads, and now I steer clear of anything on that site.

you can use cnet without using their download manager. I have been using cnet for downloads and it doesn't really mess up with browser setting etc. Also even if you are using download manager , you can uncheck the button where it asks you to change some browser settings

Not really, I never got to uncheck anything, all got installed secretly.
