Do .infos rank well in google?

I was just wondering if it would be possible to to rank well with .info websites, considering you do all the necessary backlinking and everything else that is required of you to make a site rank. thanks in advance to anyone that answer my newbie question.

It depends on how saturate your keyword is as well. I have tried .info before and ended up throw all of them away, it is only cheap for the first year, to me it seems like a waste now because i find that .com, .org and .net are much easier to rank and if in the future your site is doing well and you want to sell it, nobody is going to buy .info site. Just a thought.

It is possible, I don't see any problem with .info domain. I have seen it with PR3/PR4/PR5 (forgot the URLs). The most important thing is about how you manage its contents, SEO, etc.

even i am having the same thought, i am trying to do some niche site marketing, but the advice i have received points to the use of .com or .net or .org. and even when i use the Micro Niche Finder the program checks only for this above mentioned TLD's only. and has dikoro

said it is only cheap for the first year of business, but if it takes a lot of time to scale up the Google wall, i think it is better to go with the top 3, and dikoro thanks for this info

@acolon - google has no preferences when it comes to TLD's. With a decent optimization, you can rank with an *.info TLD as good as with an *.com TLD - there is no SEO benefit to either of them.

I have been a champion in using .infos for last 2 or 3 years as I wanted to start with minimal cost and I did managed to get my infos to compete with good rankings.

However, lately after analyzing it, I realize that if you have an option, you should not use info unless there is no choice. Infos take more effort to get them to rank and it is easy to fall off your position too. You may get say PR3 but it will more easily drop than say a com if you neglect it.

I have many many infos that are 3 years old and I pay the same as the coms for renewal so it's not cheaper. In fact renewal of infos can be higher than com. And if I try to sell them they cannot fetch as much as other domains.

I think use of infos should be a last option. This is based on my experience with hundreds of infos.

@Mage - the fact that you lost rankings isn NOT due to the fact, that you've got *.info as you TLD but for a milion different reasons. If you had ONLY .com TLD's and lost rankings, would you say .com TLD's should be the last option?

Once and for all: Google doesn't prefer ANY TLD!!! It simply doesn't matter for google if you have an info or com TLD - ist is absolutley NO ranking criteria.

I am not saying for sure that google prefers com to info but based on comparisons of hundreds of infos and coms, I came to the conclusion.

However, it is a subjective comparison as I did not set out to compare them. Initially due to cost contrains I used only infos but since the last year, i try to use a com or net together with an info on every topic I do. That's why I have some comparison.

I think no one really knows exactly what Google prefers. I'm only sharing my experience. Also, I find that if I had started with com or net instead of info, my domains would be worth so much more now. There's always a poor perception of infos among people.

That's why i say, where there's a choice use other domains first. Of course if cost is important, then get infos as they can rank too.

As I said this is subjective but I see it in many cases.

Lets say I have a PR3 info and a PR3 com in the same niche. After a year of not doing anything to them at all, the info drops to PR1 and com is still PR3 or at most PR2. ( I have observed this in many domains.)

I don't know the reason or whether there's any other reason but I'm just sharing my experience .

I tested a .com / .net and .info for about 3-4 months using the same linking / bookmarking strategies etc... got the .com and .net ranked easily but it took months to get the .info any where near them.
