Do .info names suck?

I was recently searching for a few keyword rich domain names for a new niche I was looking at. It's a very popular niche. When I searched for the EXACT phrase I wanted the registrar showed the .com on auction for $38,000 and the .net for somewhere around $12,000. The funny thing was the .info was available for $1.99. I bought it, but now I wonder if it was still available because it's worthless.

Depends on who you ask. But, I think the general consensus is that as far SERP's go, you can build a quality site on a .info.
 
i have still made bank from these so-called worthless domains. who cares if i can't get it in the serps.
 
yeh i dont giv 2 shits about the ext lol i to have info domains and i use them no problems. i do exactly what u just did. if others are taken. more than likely the info will be free so grab that.. still does the same job dont it. just a matter of how u go about promoting it etc..
 
domain extension is not very important when it come to SEO or SERP ranking. I have seen .info domain getting ranked higher than .com or net. on google
 
through my experience, it does not matter, had .info in top 10 easily, one i didnt even market and was in the top 10 there cheap and cheerful even google has google.info
 
same here, rather have a well keyword targeted .info domain than a non-related .com one, unless obviously you want to go for the long term branding of your site, then in that case I'd suggest picking a short and unique .com domain

also, the .me domain is relatively new, i know people are buying common terms like crazy, but you are more likely to find some good shorter domains there as well.
 
of course its better a .com but .info do not rank bad
 
A .com is only superior when it comes to branding. I use .info's a lot for my web proxies since they are so cheap and web proxies die off before any worthwhile branding can be earned.
 
The "normal" world still very much puts .com and .net domains at its highest value. And that is because they do very normal and conventional stuff with their domains plus they still have a very old school mindset. But BHtters aren't that way right? So don't sweat it. In fact, be proud that you got a good deal. If I were you, I would fully examine the .com webbie and be creative about how I could exploit the .info domain to tap on the value of the .com.
 
I have found that the serps reward slightly higher on a TLD (.com) than .info, .us, etc...for the same term BUT for a keyword targeted domain you wish to dominate, .info will work (in combination with link juice, original content etc.)
 
In my experience I would say no. Many people looking for information on the web and find a .info will be more prone to attract viewers because they view it as a source of "information"
 
I have plenty of .info domains on the first page of google. if the keywords are right and the promotion good it doesn't matter.
 
I also love .info's most always they are cheap sometimes free and make great re-directs
 
It doesn't matter from search engine's point of view. All TLDs are equal in Google, Yahoo... but I wouldn't bet on people. Spammers love .info domains because they're cheap in their first year and most of them don't see a light of the extension and that's why the .info automatically represents something bad, spammy and worthless but it's totally equal to any other TLD and it's not true when people say it's bad for SEO. It's NOT, they rank just as .coms.

I always try to buy a .com and all of my websites have .com TLD and if the name I want is used I try to pick another one, I never go for .info. Why? Thanks to those spammers abusing the innovation and cheap prices for blasting out their crap business.
 
normally it doesn't matter, but i wouldn't build a commerce site on an info
 
They only issue I've encountered with .info is that its more prone to getting sandboxed. You can't just set it and go like a .com, you actually need to get some backlinks. You should be doing this anyway so its a non-issue for most.

I did a test by putting a BANS site on a .info, .com & .us about 6 months ago. No added content, no template modifications, no backlinks nothing but a BANS site and a privacy policy.

The .info was deindexed within a month.
The .us is still indexed but only 3 pages and gets 0 traffic
The .com has 42 pages indexed and gets about 20 epn clicks each month
 
.info kills branding. Only good if your pushing pure crap, usually the people who buy pure crap dont care, but the avg consumer prefers .net or .com
 
.info domains get really spidered so slow that you sometimes want to send some kids over to the sandbox to play with them and build some castles in the sand...
