Do I need to resize photos before uploading on WP?

Hello all,

I have some very high quality and quite big size photos and I want to upload them on my WP site.

Do I need to resize those photos before uploading or photos optimizations plugins can do the work for me?

Plugins such as Optimole and Shortpixel Adaptive Images deliver images through a CDN and automatically resize them.

If you're not using these plugins (or some other CDN that automatically resizes images), you need to resize your images to the size you're using them on the website in order to get the best load time.
 
it depends of you need, if you need show that image full quality you dont have to rezise or compress them,
but if you want website load faster you can install plugin for compress like wp smush, Shortpixel , etc.
 
before uploading, compress your photos size from https://shortpixel.com/online-image-compression
its free tool 50 files photos or pdf scan be compressed at a time
 
Better to install plugin, a good one just above member said, otherwise you need to do manually.

Yes, in case you have large size images. You can use GIMP ( free software, installed on your computer ). I use GIMP because I try to avoid installing a lot of plugins on the website.
 
There are some good plug-ins available to compress your images automatically when you upload. It will definitely saves your time. You may give a try.
 
You have to do that only if there is a limit set by your hosting provider (like when u try to upload a big size photo - it shows 'maximum upload limit 2 MB or something). You can contact the hosting to increase the limit or if you have c panel access then u can do it yourself.

If you are worried about the page size (obviously, bigger image means bigger page size, which increases page load time and decreases site speed), then first you can upload the original image - wp will automatically generate the medium size/shorter versions - show that version and link to the original version of the image. In this way the quality of the image will be intact.
 
As you have already heard, use a plug-in. Do not waste your time resizing before uploading.
 
It's best to use small images around 600 x 400. If you use full size and alot of images it will take forever to load each one.
 
do not use pngs, use jpg images, you can compress them good. i usually use 600 x 337 jpg images @below 35KB compression.
 
You can manually resize them or use a plugin. If high-quality images are not needed then better compress them.
 
Definitely a WP plugin because it will save you a lot of time. I'm using reSmush.it
 
You can compress them online at tinypng or use a plugin like resmush. Never upload heavy photos to your WordPress. They will be a big memory waste and will make your website slower to load.

Instead of installing a plugin for wp, you can shrink it yourself. The more plugins the slower WP :)
