Seriously... do I need links to rank?

Of course, it's essential, you should know that since you are here for 8 years.

I suggest you buy a SEO course or try a bit before asking stupid questions.
Lol, he doesn't need a course. This has been said so much in the seo side of forum

The answer to this question (as with everything else in the SEO world) is: It depends :)

I believe that if you work on a good expired domain with quality backlinks, you won't be needing too many backlinks to rank some low competition keywords with your content strategy. But if you are going after some high competition keywords, you will definitely need some relevant backlinks from authoritative websites.

On the other side, if you are just starting with a freshly registered clean domain, you will definitely need relevant backlinks to rank your content on Google, otherwise, it will be very very hard.

Recently I had an interesting read about this topic where Google's representative John Mueller gives his opinion on link building, so maybe you can read it on your free time :)

you can simply ignore links and focus on writing content till you have finished 90% of a topic/niche.

If your ranking is ok, you don't need links.
If your ranking is not ok, add links because there is no more content to add.

if you are building ecomm, business sites with thin content, and you try to rank specific product/service pages, link is a must.

If it's any type of competitive keyword then you will need links, period.

It depends on how competitive your niche/industry is.

The bottom line is if you´re in a highly competitive niche/industry you will need links from other relevant and authoritative sites in order to catch Google´s attention and earn its trust in order to gain high rankings above other more established sites.

Think about links as a "vote of trust" other sites give yours so, the more relevant links your site gets coming from sites Google´s "trust" (authoritative) that´s a clear signal to Google that they should "trust" you as well and that you´re also an authority within your niche/industry.

You´re basically focusing on the "E" and the "A" and forgetting all about the "T".

I'll be the first to say hell no you don't need links to rank!! I saw my sites rank too many times without doing anything now.

To rank good! Well, that's a definitive yes! lol

No, but to rank very competitive keywords, you should need.

It depends upon your keyword competition. if you have zero competition you may rank easily without any backlinks. but for high competitive keywords you need high quality backlinks for ranking.
