Are hashtags still useful for reach and discovery, or are they becoming less important across platforms?

Hashtags still help with discovery and search on most platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, but they're way less important for boosting reach than great content and real engagement.
 
yeah def, but how they matter has shifted on platforms like TikTok and Instagram they're more about context and niche discovery but spammy or irrelevant tags hurt more than help imo its kind of annoying
 
Yes Hashtags are important; however, you need to make sure to use ones that are about the content you are posting. When using ones that are related to your content, that will get you good reach.

Hashtags still help with discovery when used sparingly and strategically, but across most platforms in 2025, strong content, keywords in captions, and audience engagement matter far more than stuffing hashtags.
 
They pretty much still work for getting your posts, content, etc. to the people that find it relevant. Though these days I think it more contextualises your content rather than act as a traffic driver. As with most platforms though, it'll still mostly be all the other factors that matter most, whether that's watchtime, engagements, CTRs, and such.

I don't see many using them as often as in the past, like it doesn't matter on large accounts at all.

I have a small Youtube that I am building up and find my vids ranking for hashtag terms so they surely have, at least, some effect as I don't see why they would be ranking above similar videos on such an account.
 
Hashtags are still useful in 2025, but only 3–5 niche-relevant hashtags; the real reach comes from content and engagement.
