I have two subreddits on Reddit. One blew up in the last 6 months and is ranking very high on Google, and the other requires some *very* specific keywords to show up in Google searching.

- I've optimized both as best as I can (given that it's not my own site), and I've gathered a good number of backlinks the non-ranking subreddit.
- The posting (so, the content) is quite spammy in the popular subreddit
- The popular subreddit backlinks are SO spammy (not made by me), horrible DA, etc.
- I've made some decent backlinks to the non-ranking subreddit

Why is the popular subreddit ranking so well when the other isn't??

Probably the popularity has contributed to engagement on that page - the higher the engagement (more participation), the livelier it gets, it adds to the metrics of showing that the page is showing some good content. Possibly it has good low bounce rate as well - good engagement should have low bounce rate as the reader is either participating or spending time reading the content. SERP page clicks also contribute in a minor way in the ranking as well - it's all about engagement!

There are several factors considered when it comes to the ranking algorithm of Google, and one is the click-through rate. When there's a decline in the click-through rate, the ranking is declining as well. Since most audiences are likely to click on top-ranked results, Google focuses on providing quality results. One tool that you can consider in line with this factor is SerpClix.
