I used to agree, but after I saw someone (earlier this year I believe) with an Ahrefs screenshot of a website (possibly his site, but I don't remember) with 1000s of RDs and 100% d0follow backlinks getting millions of visitors per month I kind of changed my mind a little...

Although, it's possible that - in google's typical fashion - they have rules and exceptions for everything, so it's possible that the site had been so trusted by google that they've let it get away with it.

But yeah, sometimes you can get away with 100% DF links, but you're right, it's best to have a mixed profile in general, just to be on the safe side of things. Not everyone is as lucky as that dude :)

Yeah, that makes sense. There are always exceptions, especially when a site has built massive authority and trust with Google. At that level, even an all do-follow profile might not raise any flags. But for most sites (especially newer or growing ones), trying to replicate that approach is risky. A natural mix of do-follow and no-follow links is safer long-term and helps build a more solid profile.
 
I completely agree, and I think the conversation often misses the most important point. It's not just about "balancing a profile" for the sake of looking natural to Google. It's that some of the most powerful, brand-building links you can get are no-follow by default.

Think about it:
  • A link from a major news outlet like Forbes or The New York Times? Almost always no-follow.
  • A popular discussion on Reddit that sends thousands of targeted visitors? No-follow.
  • Your brand's official social media profiles on Facebook, X, or LinkedIn? No-follow.
  • Most comments on industry blogs or forums? No-follow.
A site with a 100% do-follow profile isn't just "unnatural"; it's a huge red flag that the owner isn't doing any real marketing or promotion. They're only building links they think will pass "juice."

A healthy mix of links is a symptom of a healthy business. You're not just building links; you're building a brand, and that activity naturally creates the diverse profile that Google wants to see.

Think a balance need traffic also need link juice - and all follow links would look very suspicious to search engines

I agree to this, there should always be mix of no follow and do follow.
