Do expiring domains keep their age when renewed in time?

I was wondering if expiring domains do keep their age when you buy them at auctions?

It depends on whether that expiring domain has expired or is in the process of expiring. If it is in the process of expiring (not yet expired), it will surely retain its domain age, after you have successfully grab it from the auction.
But if it is an already expired domain (no longer registered), then it will discard its initial registry information.

If you use the domain for SEO purposes I suggest you also to consider topic relevancy.

In fact, also if a domain has good age but you buy it and fill with contents that has nothing in common with the original topic of the site, it will lose essentially almost all of its "power". When you recover a dropped domain you should restore at lest the main pages' contents of the old website.
