Quick poll for you.

When you buy a product (php script in this case) does it piss you off if the script if encoded?

There are 2 reasons why you might be pissed - because you want to mod the code yourself, or you want to crack it

So does it piss you off or do you appreciate that the developer wants to protect his work?

?

Yes.

But that 's the reason I encode MY code.

Encoded php files are a big problem. That 's hard to change the script, even easy and small changes. But I understand perfectly if some programmers want to encrypt the code.

If i wanted to mod it yes, but otherwise no. I've been learning php on and off for about 3 years (yes it wasn't a priority) but having just spent the last month (on and off) building a pretty mental CMS, i can see why a seller would want to encode. I mean if i was ever to sell it, which is unlikely due to the mass of free cms', i wouldn't want my code ending up in others CMS' more than it being cracked.

IF i buy a product, i will ask for a refund if it's encoded (most likley)

Some stuff is understandable, some isn't.

When you buy SENuke, do you ask fo refund because he does not give you the code to mod it?
Think about it. Desktop programming and web programing are both programming. Both require the same amount of professionalism. Yet, it makes you angry to NOT get the source code for WEB programs but so natural that you rarely get source code for DESKTOP apps.

I think it 's not the same thing. Probably we will never need (no reason) to change a desktop program, but a website we will very probably need.

I know exactly what you mean.

It's a balancing act imo. There are some protection methods that are 100% iron clad though.

What percentage of people in this market (seo, black hat etc) do you think would be comfortable digging through unencrypted php code?

Yes, but that's because I hate running inefficient, bloated code, let alone when it's intentional. Anyone who would even consider doing such a thing is not someone I want coding for me.

But I suppose it's moot because I prefer to roll my own anyway.
