Do EMDs Still Work Like They Once Did?

Hi guys,

It's been a while since I've reviewed my portfolio of niche EMDs (WP with articles), simply because after Oct 1, 2012, ALL of my high ranking EMDs toppled in the SERPs (except one). This coincided with a Google algorithm update. Lucky I diversified, right?

Anyway, I hear that "high quality" EMDs still rank well. How true is this, and is this the only additional factor to take into consideration as of recent times?

Does anyone have any tips to recover such affected sites?

Thanks! :tee:

No ! EMDs don't work like they once did but some "high quality" EMDs still rank well.
Just make a search with
Code:
nikon camera parts
You will see the result (y)

I think the main problem with EMDs is the anchor diversity with back links, I only have 1 EMD and its not actually on Google but it is ranking top on Bing and Yahoo - my back linking pretty much consisted of the emd keyword as my anchor

EMDs work fine with good quality content and without SEO. Once you play seo and do mistakes they become haunted. Just my 2 Cents.

That's exactly right. EMDs still work as they did, considering a keyword is a keyword, and having the match is a premium, but what often happens is people get an EMD and abuse that keyword like they're immune to penalties.

The latest updates targeted this exact practice. The solution, which is so bloody simple, is to just switch up anchors and target your pages as well as an array of keywords instead of 5-10.

I've done a quick backlink analysis on a few of the affected domains and it does indeed seem that some of them have not much diversity.

Some of the affected domains, however, had very few backlinks to begin with and were ranking. It seems like there might be an additional factor?

Do they still work like they used to, no. Do they still work, yes.

I will say they don't work the day three EMD's in my niche fall off the rankings.

I had 3 EMD's doing well until they went downhill about the same time as yours. I think it was my back link profile diversity and anchor text.

When you fixed your anchor text diversity, did the EMDs come good again?
