Yes, but not like before. Dropping pins alone wont boost Local SEO anymore Google relies more on real signals like reviews, proximity, consistency and engagement. Its just a small part of a bigger system now, not a ranking hack.

Yes. claiming and optimizing your Google Business Profile pin is still essential for Local SEO. Manipulative pin-dropping tactics (fake locations, bulk drops) are penalized by Google and should be avoided.

Map pin drops and “Google Maps rings” tricks have very little real SEO value now and can even trigger spam filters.
For local SEO today, consistent business info, real reviews, local citations, and genuine local backlinks work much better long term.

I remember when pin drops used to be talked about a lot for Local SEO. These days it feels like Google relies more on real business signals, reviews, relevance, and overall GBP optimization rather than simple map pin tactics alone.

Yeah the old map ring methods were popular for a while not saying they do nothing now but I wouldn’t rely on them as a main strategy anymore

Yeah, people still do map pin drops and geo-tagging tricks, but Google’s way better now at filtering fake local signals than it was back in the old “map rings” era. Real GBP optimization, local citations, reviews, and legit proximity signals move the needle way more today.
