Do clients even know the difference between a good backlink or bad?

most clients don’t really know. they usually look at DR , DA and maybe traffic.
for me, relevance, real traffic and a clean site matter more than just big metrics.

Most clients don’t. They usually see DR, DA, or “********” and assume higher is better.

That’s why it helps to explain relevance, real traffic, placement, and whether the site actually ranks before talking about metrics.

Experienced clients usually look at traffic and relevance but non-technical clients often just focus on the DR/DA numbers.

Some clients definitely know the difference, especially those who understand SEO beyond basic metrics.
Others mainly look at DA or DR, but relevance and link quality matter much more in the long run.

Eventually I guess. If it does not do any good, clients will start looking why it is not working. With the AI and all it is easier to spot such issues. Take it from me. I didn't know anything about the quality of it and once I started seeing "Spam" and zero traffic On hrefs I stopped and started actually purchasing meaningful guestposts to the websites with traffic.

It really depends on how closely someone looks at the placement. A link can appear impressive on paper but still be weak if it comes from an unrelated or poorly maintained site. That difference is easy to miss when someone is only checking the headline numbers.

Some do, but most consider outcomes. Our task is to inform them that the quality, relevance, and condition of the site are more important than the sheer quantity of backlinks.

Some clients might care about all of them but most only consider DR traffic and price for me it is vital to explain why relevance placement and the quality of the referring website are relevant rather than just considering one metric.

A simple way is to show clients where the backlinks are coming from and explain why those websites are useful. It helps them understand the difference between a good and bad link.

The difference can be difficult to spot if you only look at SEO metrics. A relevant link from a genuine site with useful content can be far more valuable than a high-metric site with little relevance or obvious link manipulation. Context matters a lot when evaluating backlinks.

Explain it with a few real examples. Showing a good relevant link and a bad random link can make the difference easier to understand.

Some clients will know what they are getting and some doesn't. Some clients clearly explains what they want while others concentrating only on metrics and traffic . If we discuss with them clearly and explain what will work, most of the clients will understand and go for it..

if you are selling to Agency or person who know SEO, then definatley, he will judge the backlinks others are not interested what are you building they just want to know the outcome. so yes there is chance people buy thing blindly and sometimes they know what they are buying.
