I'm planning to completely redesign a site which would probably mean moving and deleting some pages, do backlinks to pages that no longer exist still provide help in the rankings? Basically, should I try to keep the page names the same? Cheers!

Use .htaccess file to redirect to your new pages from old deleted pages. old linkjuice is worth a lot and having them blank or 404 is like wasting energy.

Thank you for the quick reposnses!

You should try to create as much old urls as possible. You can use 301 redirection through .htaccess file if you cannot make new ones. You might think that making new sites and keeping old urls would look bad for Google because dropped domain buyers are constantly involved but remember that Google might also be behind those guys. :D
