Do backlinks need to come from relevant sites?

Hi Guys,

I see alot of these services for building backlinks, all that have good reviews.

My question is, do the backlinks come from relevant sites. Eg...if i run a travel site does it matter if the backlinks dont come from travel related sites ?

It does matter, but there is not much difference , as I feel. Sore, it has some extra edge, but backlinks from other pages are of importance too.

One good related backlink from an authority site beats 100 spam links, but if you can't get authority links, you are stuck with blog networks and other links.

absolutely has to come from relevant blogs/sites, that will not only get you authority but also gives you much needed relevant traffic that will actualy buy or use your service. which is the whole deal is about, to get relevant and potential customer to your website.

Relevancy is important, which doesn't mean that you should avoid unrelated links. I believe that it's better to add unrelated links as well, because your link profile will look more natural.

It's about Contextual Links​, the website doesn't necessarily have to be related, but the article or piece of content helps. Even if the text aroudn your backlink is contextual, it helps:

Ie: You write a guest post or Review and there's a small author blurb including what your website is etc.

Relevancy beats quantity.

I still remember a few years ago, making a few blog comments linked to my post from relevant sites
made my post rocketing to google top#3 for the long tail keywords, but need hundreds irrelevant backlinks
to make another post achieve top#10.

link from related sites are like gems, but they are hard to find. what really works these days are links from related pages. dont take me wrongly i am not talking about blog comments on related pages. i am talking about in article (contextual Links). and these links become more powerful if they are coming from high authority sites like Web 2.0s and social networks.

It's not just relevant links that Google wants - they're looking for a natural footprint. That means they want no-follow as well as do-follow, low pr as well as high pr, varied link text, etc. As part of that 'natural look', Google expects some of your links to come from non relevant sites. It's all good.

Both Relevant and Non-Relevant links are important. Search engines gives important to Authority and High PR sites also. But the fact is more weight for relevant Backlinks and also it generate relevant traffic.
