Do backlinks have to be hyperlinks?

Hi guys,

Just wondering, if I wrote my website as text and it wasnt a hyperlink, would google still favour this in anyway?

Google is not the same as it was few years ago. Their algorithm is tracking brand mentions thorough website content, can you imagine that? By that being said, I am pretty sure that they count the non-clickable 'links' as well (maybe it does not have the same effect as the hyperlinked ones, but still...)

Aye, I thought it may be the case, we can get non hyperlinked text for the website on manufacturers websites of the products we promote. Wondering if this would be a big shout to google as its perfect niche relevancy.

It is counted. brand name mention should be a part of every SEO campaign nowdays. Don't forget the fact that, if person X will see your brand mentioned in a forum when someone talking about specific niche, he will google your brand name in their search engine. So not the brand mention for the spiders (bots) is the thing that you give the juice, it's the person who wrote your brand name in their search engine.

To me : Brand name - Is much more important than the anchor links for a start of SEO campaign

would love to see if people study test this, and see the result.
