I am selling a niche product, and it sells fairly good, however I am currently doing 7 days, and I want to to a couple 3 days auctions, do 3 days auctions get the same spot as 7 day auctions, are they placed differently?

Hi: I'm an eBay Powerseller. I did a lengthy experiment with 1, 3, 5, and 7 day auctions. To me it really depends on what you are selling. I found that somethings do better on 7 day auctions because they basically gather more watchers. But if you have a hot seller - its gonna do good on a 3 day auction too. Bottom line is buyers are online and ready to buy 24/7. So its just a matter of catching them at the right time which could be anytime. I have sold stuff on a 1 and 3 day auction that didn't even sell on a 7 day auction. So just experiment and see what works best for you.

Every product is different, and every time is different. Of course, we're talking about auctions as well. There is no guarantee.

From ebays perspective, if you're not in a hurry to sell, you don't seem like a scammer.

I think it depends on the product, my experience with being on the bidding end of car auctions is it doesn't make much difference they usually still bring in the same amount of bids regardless of length of auction

I think if you are not a TRS/power seller your listing stays higher ranked with 3 days duration.
Because within 7 days it will go down in search results and recently placed auctions will be listed higher

Ive done lots on 5 days which I which I personally think is better. I normally start on a Sunday or a Wednesday, seams to work for me.

I always just let my items end during the weekend. Seems to work great for me :)

Also noticed this too haha, but makes sense.

Also, yes its all about catching them at the right time, and it is because of my feedback and probably my rating on the site, I know if I keep going, within 6 months I will get more sales. Just gotta stick to the plan.

I was selling gift cards a couple of years ago and 1 day auctions brought in the same amount as 3 day auctions.

eBay will only let you have two gift cards listed at the same time hence the 1 day auctions.

I prefer 1 day auctions for virtual goods. 7 days is only for when I'm not in a rush and I want to see how many people I can get interested. If it's a hot selling item 3 is best in my opinion.

It really does depend on the product your selling, I like a 3 day ending the auction on the weekends after dinner time, works great for me.

some buyers want a bargin some buyer dont want to compete, it all depends on what a buyer wants and want to do at a prticular time. But to answer the question that I think you are asking..... No its not like a google search with meta tags and keywords.... Auction listings do not get placed better depending on the time frame of the listing.
Example.. Better booty creme for your toes Free shipping
Auction style: 7 day Duration
Better booty creme for your toes Free shipping
Auction style: 3 day Duration
The listing "does not" get placed higher in default results because of the duration
The listing "does" get placed higher based on your seller rating

The only way it may sell better/faster is if they want the results of the auction faster...
I will agree with jharr53301 the 7 day will catch more viewers. And we all know the more exposure means more selling potential... But if you do have a great niche item or hot selling item then i would personally go with the 3 day. Why not make the sell and get the money faster..

Well it seems as if some of my items sell really shitty on certain days, weekends seem to be doing the best.

Plus its always in the afternoon on Weekends when people go crazy, especially on a Sunday around 4-5PM :)

I do not think that it really matters. I think that it is a hit or miss thing, just depending on when the right crowd is on ebay to bid on what you are selling. Experiment and see what works the best for you.

It's totally depends on your products and maybe 1 days could equal 7 days and with the experience before...

I think it totally depends on product you are listing and also if u are boosting them in search so it can come on first results.

In my opinion last 24-hours of your auctions is when you get the most views because thats the time your auction will be floating high on search results on end first. When you are selecting 7-day auctions, you are reaching the prime time LATE.

7-day auctions should be selected for high value items where a customer might need time to arrange cash or think over the product because making the purchase or a item which is rare and there are not many search results for the item.

depends... if you're trying to get rid of something quick and price it competitively, it'll most likely sell within 24 hours anyway... depends on your pricing etc, really

It really depends on the popularity of the item. The more popular the item, the more searches are done thus the more your item is seen. For popular items, I put 3 or 5 days cuz you will get a good amount of traffic and not have to wait. For lower popularity items, just put 7 days.
