So I took a break from IM for a while and now that I've come back I am a little overwhelmed.

I'm seeing word's like Panda being thrown around and not really sure where to start anymore.

Does the tried and true methods for SEO work still? Article marketing, scrapebox and things liek that. I'm thinking about dusting off these old tools and firing them up, but I dont want to waste my time. Oh yea, and whats the deal with the plus 1 shit?

If you've been gone for a bit, you have a lot of research to do. Then of course just dive back in and start testing out new methods.

As for google +1's, I can't say whether they help or not cuz I really don't know. i don't think anyone could know for sure. I can say that I implement them into my SEO strategy, because it's better to be safe then sorry. Nothing bad could come out of them
 
I don't think +1s help your seo to everyone. They just move your results up for the people who +1'd them and their acquaintances through google plus
 
I got some free +1's and it shot my rank up for a keyword by about 10 places. Not sure if it was a coincidence. Seemed to help though.
 
While Google rankings is one way to get traffic, if you are trying to use G+ for that, you may be missing out on the traffic you could get by seeing it as it truly is, a live traffic generator. Use the same rules of thumb you would use with other SM such as twitter and facebook and you should do fine. As foe pure SEO advantages, I do know that the percieved advances are ususlly reported by people who do not know that their search results are showing as personalized. I do not doubt others that say it did indeed help their ranking, but I would consider this a secondary advantage instead of primary. You can however SEO your G+ profile and use it as a hub pretty safely, and pluses might help this.
 
real +1's help you rank (or +1's from fake, aged accounts that use real names and have photos and posts)
the sort of +1s that you can generate through software or buy from people that aren't you will just get you deindexed and/or sandboxed
 
I think it would help. So I created a page on google plus about my site. Gonna view the results after I get the +1's.
 
If you search for a query and if any of your friends has +1ed something related to that query, Big G considers it as a vote of relevance and makes those results visible to you. So ya, +1s do help in getting some traffic. Not sure about their impact on ranking though.
 
yah it just help out our site to get in hand by +1 promoters friends groups
 
+1's help with generalized ranking as well, because they're a social proof that google can quantify, track, and detect attempts to game. so they place a lot of stock in them.
they also love them because faking them is easy, but doing it right is nigh impossible
making ranking by blackhatting +1s a great honeypot
