DNS Records changed - but not on my Windows PC - Please Help.

Hi guys,

I recently changed the WP vault from a shared hosting provider to a dedicated server and changed the DNS records accordingly. When I check the DNS Propagation tool - all locations are pointed to the new IP address: https://dnschecker.org/?#A/festingerbhw.com

My MacBook is working too (using Wifi from the same router as my Windows PC), but my Windows PC keeps refusing.

What I have done?
  • CMD --> ipconfig /flushdns.
  • CMD --> resetIP
  • Resetted router
  • Trying to connect through Wifi with my desktop PC - not working.
I am quite desperate and I am in need for some help.

Anyone got a suggestion? :-)

Have you tried a different browser on your Windows PC? If that resolves correctly, it is your browser cache which is the issue adn you will need to flush your cache, which is a pain in the arse.

Thanks for your reply @fasttrak - I have flushed all browser caching but nothing works. I also tried to connect through Wifi with my desktop PC with my phone as hotspot (as my mac is connecting fine through the mobile connection) - but neither of these works. :(
 
DNS Propagation takes time. Not much you can do. DNS servers around the world have syncing ability but it is not immediately. It can take few minutes to 48 hours.

If you are only looking to test it, you can modify DNS records (locally only) using the hosts file. There are many tutorials online for that.

Just go to

Windows directory
Systems32
Drivers
Etc
Hosts file

Not at my laptop but pretty sure that's the path.

You have to show hidden files to see it.

Edit it as admin

Ip address of server thedomain. Com

Save it and it should work
 
Switch to cloudflare, than point the cloudflare to your new server, switch your pc dns do the cloudflare dns.

thats how i usually do things.

The old IP was still included in the host file.

It works like a charm!!

I have had these issues as well and they are bullshit. I have tried a few thing with results, an incognito tab in chrome or use your cell phone as a hotspot and connect with the windows laptop. Once you connect through hotspot, then return to your wifi and try again.

i would also urge you to use cloudflare or any other similar dns management service, it will make the switching of server and IPs a piece of cake in future.
