I'm really new to creating websites, this is my first buying domain + hosting so I apologize in advance if this is an amateur question!

I bought a domain using name.com, then bought hosting using hostgator. I added the nameservers, and was able to log-in to my cpanel via hostgator.

I'm trying to add Google Webmasters Tool to my site so I can use the e-mail function (I don't want to use Outlook).

In order to do this, you need to take a few steps and add a record in the DNS Management section so Google can verify you own the rights to the domain.

Here's the issue: since my hosting is now done through hostgator, google isn't able to verify hosting via name.com

This is what Name.com says:

"A domain name must use our name servers (ns1.name.com, ns2.name.com (...)) in order for DNS Management to function.

DNS for XXX.com is not current managed by name.com"

What are my options? How do I fix this?

Thank you,

Its really simple upload a html file to you server.
Download Filezilla login to ftp and upload to root server.

Going by memory, I believe you can just add a meta tag in between your <head></head> tags with Webmaster Tools. I'm not too familiar with HostGator's interface but if it is easy as doing it with NameCheap, I might be able to help you - however the meta tag option is the easiest :).

sfidirectory, what do you mean by adding a meta tag in between my head tags with webmaster tools?

It will be much easier of you just use the upload option. They give you 3 different ways to verify ownership: DNS, code within your <head> and uploading a file via FTP. Just upload the file google gives you to the root directory of your site and confirm. It takes a couple minutes sometimes but it's really fast. It shouldn't matter who your domain is registered with as long as it is pointed at your host gator account.

I think when you add your website in Webmaster Tools, they give you at least 3 options to verify that you own the site. One of them is by inserting a meta tag between the <head></head> tags on your homepage. This meta tag is generated by Webmaster Tools, and you just simply copy and paste this into where I said before, and then click on the button that says to verify your site.

If you're still having trouble doing this, I can do it for you - and show you how I did it. All I would need is the html source for your site's homepage, and the meta tag generated for you in Webmaster Tools. Normally I would assume that anyone on here has a basic understanding of html, but there are some that are just starting out like you - and I'm only too happy to help out when needed :).
