Hey guys,

Why Dmoz consider such important directory, I see that traffic travis consider this as a fector when you search for competition.

If can someone shade a light on this subject ill highly appreciate that

Dmoz has a PR of 8 and Alexa rank of 722!! Why is it important...?????
 
Over hyped in my opinion... I have had a few sites listed in dmoz and honestly I did not see a big change in my rankings.
 
DMOZ Wont give you any major push in the SERPs but will give you authority in googles eyes. You should have a more stable site in the rankings and any backlinking you do will have better effects.
 
DMOZ is a thing of the past. It once was important, nowadays it isn't anymore.

Yep Yep Yep i agree with this one. dmoz, yahoo directory, botw can give your site authority and trust.
 
I thought google mixed in some results from dmoz into SERPS or is that not the case?
 
directories are not as important as they used to be...but still they have some value....dmoz and yahoo directories are the best most common

Merit of Dmoz:

Do not rank, promote or optimize sites, simply a data provider.
Better relevancy than non-human edited directories and search
engines.

They take forever and a day to include your listing, if they decide they want to.
 
DMOZ definitely adds to the trust and authority of one's website and overall internet business presence. As noted by the previous poster, DMOZ can take a very long time to approve your listing....it they approve it t all.

Making sure that you are located in the correct category, etc. is critical to being approved. I don't have any guides on submission process but I'm sure if you search, you will find some info.

But today Dmoz not listed my site. I don't know why. My site content is unique and qualities.
 
Thank you all guys for this great info, so my conclusion is that simply do it it wont harm you and it probably wont do you good but still its best to simply give it a shot.

yes it is a bit pricey but I guess its worth it
 
Over hyped for sure move on, get you some in-content blog links and you will be good to go.
 
already moved on, but again the more im checking my competition i find that all of them posted on dmoz, so I guess it is help even if its old and not promising like it was before
I think its still worth a shot.
 
Have you checked out the links that point to dmoz? They have crazy links, the only other link directory that compares to it is the yahoo directory.

You could simply go and see how Google rates the directory:

The first category on dmoz is ARTS, so go to Google and type arts, they are ranking 10th for that keyword on Google US, that is how powerful the directory is.

The problem is that dmoz ranks sites by authority, if you have a brand new site then you will never get a link on a top level category such as ARTS, your link will more than likely be 8+ levels deep into the directory rendering the link near enough worthless.

Is it worth submitting to DMOZ? the general saying is submit and forget. I would spend more effort trying to obtain a link from Wikipedia. Even though Wikipedia is a no followed link they are considered to be one of Google's seed sites.
 
Dmoz is PR 8 AND Alexa is 772 and u asking y is important .
 
Even though I've had sites take 3 months or so to show up in DMoz I still submit a link for every site I work on.

It takes all of 5 minutes so why not
