Hey BHW, I have started my own blog and starting to get things rolling on it finally as I got my link trackers working now.

I was going over just general SEO optimization on the site and was wondering if the DMoz directory is really a boost at all.

My blog was denied at first when I applied to be added because it wasn't finished yet.

Thanks for the help BHW.

Yes dmoz will boost your rankings. It's probably the best directory, and the oldest. It's almost impossible to get on it though.

Although it is very popular directory, do not struggle too much to enter it. I think is is overrated and it is difficult to be listed even you filled the submission very good.

DMOZ is the best directory in the world, that you can't get into it.

You know, Google stopped suggesting that people submit their sites to DMOZ, and have even canned their own clone of it.
That's why this directory is not that SEO-valuable as it used to be.

While it's certainly the biggest Web directory, links that come from it (even if you manage to get them for your sites - it may take up to several months to get approved there) won't skyrocket your rankings.

Also, the directory itself has got outdated - it contains lots of links to sites that already don't exist, lots of broken links, etc. So how do you think being included in a list of broken/outdated sites is going to help you on the SEO front?

See where I'm getting at?

As for submitting to other Web directories, they will no longer help like they used to, but! They can still help a tiny bit.
Just note that when making a submission you should check and make sure that this directory is worthy submitting your site to.

Lots of corruption in DMOZ. Several categories can be paid into if you know the right contacts. Basically it went stale and unsupported, milions of dead links, corrupt volunteer editors and worse of all, asshole editors who took control of the fucking thing and basically think they own it.

actually all the sites which have high authority will boost your ranking whether it is dmoz or any other. DMOZ is actually very high rank site on which google used to depend a lot.

Just think of it as a high PR link. It will help for sure, but may not be worth the money/hassle.

Don't bother. Focus on creating high quality content, backlinks and social shares.

Dmoz Is No Doubt One Of The Biggest & Aged Web Directory But It Now Have Some Issues With Site Ranking. So You're Suggested To Feed Your Website With Some Quality Contents, High PR Links & Best Social Media For Satisfactory Growth.

Dmoz is still one of the BEST Human directory if, you can get your url listed.

I can help resubmit your blog if the contents on your site are unique.

In my opinion a Dmoz link doesn't make a huge difference in rankings and thus is not worth the struggle.

Maybe the solutions is to looks there (DMOZ) broken links and expired domains and buy it for your own purpose?

Wouldn't it be easier to buy an expired DMOZ listed domain and 301 redirect it to your money site?

A single link from DMOZ to an EMD can rank you number #1 for low competition keywords. Of course there are a lot of other factors to take into consideration like the PR of the category page, how many other sites are listed in the category and your position on the page. I've had several sites listed in DMOZ and I can tell you the links are worth their weight in gold. Google trusts DMOZ so much that they pull descriptions from the listings to use in their search results.

Yes. I agree that dmoz directory help getting authority and increase website authority.
First of finsh your site. Then submit it again by following all the rules of dmoz.
They will add your site. Or you can go for a professional submitter.
