I am having some serious trouble getting my quality white hat "How to" listed. The site focus is home related, and all 120 articles are well written.


The following are some of the reasons I suspect not being listed:

1) Site is only 6 months old.
2) People at DMOZ are lazy.

Are there any special tricks to getting listed? Thanks!

There's probably no editor of that cat...you should apply. I am an editor, make sure you write a description that is not self promoting...but descriptive of your content.
 
Thanks for the feedback! Do you mean that I should apply to be an editor or apply to you?

When I previously submitted my site, I was never self promoting and always followed the rules. Strange...
 
Fuck DMOZ. The best way to get listed is to bribe an editor. But really DMOZ has definitely lost most of its value in the eyes of Google.

Would you mind sharing how you became an editor? I've been applying for years and keep getting rejected because they think I'm gonna self promote or some shit.
 
I've seen webmasters offering $$thousands if you can get their site added, so obviously it is not easy.

But there are lots of dropped domains already in DMOZ....

If you really want to become an editor, start local; go to your hometown and aply there for an editor position. It is non comercial and chances are you get approved relatively easy. Once you are there for a month or so and you have done a few edits aply for the category you really want to edit. Once you are in the system and you proven that you can do the job the chances are decent to get the category you want. All in all i would say about 2 to 5 hours of actual editing, if it is worth your time is another question all together...
 
I have been trying to get approved for years. I have come to the conclusion that it is not worth it, as I have sailed past all competitors that have a site listed, so why bother.
 
I hate dmoz. I have a whitehat site 8yrs old with no ads and can not get listed. I even tried a fiverr gig that everyone on BHW suggested. No luck.
 
If the site is constantly making money and ranking on Google, dmoz should not be a headache :D
 
I've submitted probably near 30 white hat sites within the last couple years and only had 1 accepted. I gave up on DMOZ a long time ago.

I had the same issue. I solved it by making an application as an Editor to the category I needed listing in, took a few trys and I was accepted, then listed my site. 2 month old domain, DMOZ ranked in a couple of weeks :)

The shocking thing was the number of sites waiting to be listed in the category I am an editor of, I obviously only accepted a few, never logged back in since :)

Of course they did, they always do the first few times, they will also tell you why they said no. You then apply again, it took me three attempts or so over the course of a few days. Just make sure you save all the application details in a word doc to save you typing it all again.
 
See, DMOz are are not getting paid or it... there are tons of abandoned categories. You better submit your site once and forget about it.

May be you want to check your site's status after few years. If you are lucky, you will get listed.
 
I don't think I've ever submitted a site and not had it listed. Sometime it takes a couple of months, one I submitted last month got approved in a few days.
 
There's a DMOZ editor with a gig on Fiverr. He's an editor for a couple of categories. His gig is to give you tips on how to get approved. But if your site is under his categories, then it means that he will include it since he has the tips.

Worth a shot for 5 bucks.
