Have you ever had a pain ever trying to get a look in on DMOZ - I have submitted 3 times over 3 years - NOTHING... where as my competitors all have listings.
Any tips?

Getting listed in Dmoz is good, but not mandatory. There are many high PR directories out there with high approval rate which you can try. If you still want to get listed over there, how about outsourcing that task to experts. There are people out there who provide guaranteed DMOZ listing service for a price. Also recently I saw a gig in fiverr. A Dmoz editor is doing submission for buyers as per dmoz guidelines. Just give it a try.
DMOZ editors are lazy. Perhaps they are not adding new sites or just getting paid for new listings. On the other hand, I have had a high successful rate posting sites for non english spoken languages such as spanish. Editors approve them pretty fast. This might not be useful for your site but you can post another "intermediate blog(or many)" to get the link juice from.

I'm an approved DMOZ editor and have my site listed in DMOZ here:
It only took 2 weeks to get my site accepted which is weird since I've been trying for years previously to get some of my other sites listed. You have to be very picky about what category your site is listed in and you have to follow their listing guidelines very closely. I think applying to be editor of your category will help get your site listed quicker, but that was just my experience. I have helped a couple of members submit their site so am hoping their sites get accepted.
Like other members have said on here, it isn't the end of the world if you don't get listed, as there are tons of other high pr directories out there. I tried for years to get my site listed in DMOZ because everyone was ranting and raving about how great it was to be listed in there, but nowadays it doesn't look as great as it used to be.

DMOZ is something like dead weight now... They don't approve quality sites and you will find some good crappy sites over there dunno how they passed all conditions... You don't even get any response... Nada nothing lol
Still by habit when I finish any new site, I submit there, hoping that may be some editor will care to check it... So far no luck lol

WOOT! I just noticed I site submitted like six months ago is listed! 
OH! and the anchor is perfect! The domain name itself is pretty rocking too. But sadly I am not making any $$$ or that much traffic even. It's all whitehat, so far.
The keyword gets 9,140,000 exacts a month. I'm way down at position 170 in the SERP. GWM Tools says its only got "Total links : 536"
I guess I can only go up from here.

HM! But here is the dilemma, it seems in the example I gave in another post... that there is a relationship between..
1. Yahoo listings and DMOZ listings ( IE One might influence DMOZ by having a Yahoo
2. Sites ranking above me ALL have a DMOZ...!!!

I recently tried to become an editor and they rejected my application. No specific reason was listed. The category is something that I have a lot of experience with (5+ years), so I was a bit surprised to see it rejected. Perhaps they denied it because of my affiliation, however, I did not list any of my sites in the application, nor do I have any listings with them. Thoughts?

From one I have read in the documentation for editors....your best shot at getting accepted is focusing as narrow as possible on the category that your site belongs in.
From my experience though...its a waiting game as there are a couple of sites in my section that are over a year old and still waiting.

If you're an editor of a category and your site fits into the categories niche, you should have no problems adding your site... My website only has a PR of 0 (yes that is crap I have to admit, but am working on that) and only gets on average 100 visitors a day, and they still accepted my site. So just add your site and see what happens
.Also what category are you editor of? Maybe we can network with one another, as I have people asking me to give them guaranteed listings in DMOZ but always tell them that any category outside of my jurisdiction is out of my control. I would be editor of more categories but I have alot of client work + fiverr gigs which are top priority.

Thats exactly what I done when I tried to get my site listed. You could try for the generic category but your chances there are slim. The correct grammar and not having any superlatives in the description are important as well...

GRRR This is so complicated. My competitor is listed in a million categories widely.

I purchased a fiver gig from an dmoz editor that will submit your site for you to get it listed in dmoz. Even gave suggestions, forgot about it and saw that it got accepted a few weeks ago. But no change in traffic for my site

I have been fighting with DMOZ for practically ever. I mean even websites that weren't selling ANYTHING and have since become authority sites haven't gotten listed.
Frankly, I don't even bother anymore because as others have already said, it's just not worth the trouble.
