Ah yeah, so, yes @reaaski you are right.

The "original poster" would have received 66,66 % then, because he delivered a working prototype (at least).

it's interesting how the thread for dispute over 100$ became much popular and you already changed the subject totally to open discussion haha I like this forum people:)

I would personally not work without 50% advance payment, unless the member is pretty well known here (and a paid member, which would mean they are serious about their membership here). Sorry for your loss man.

The price itself was insanely low too. I would never ever do such a bot for that price. But you do you. :)
A 50% deposit is always the right way to go, especially when you are dealing with new members.

When people pay for something, they are (most of the time) being more careful rather than the usual 'payment after completion' when they can just simply 'dissappear' and leave you hanging.

That feeling you would lose a client if you asked for an upfront payment...

In reality you're just saving your time by verification.

They can go find another provider then.

I wrote this in another thread recently, 90% of the people falling victim to these things are people who are coming from a place of desperation, they can sense that something is off but they're too attached to the deal due to scarcity mindset, fear of not finding another partner etc, and dont have the willingness to walk away.

+1 from me

Or: 33,33 % upfront, 33,33 % for the prototype, 33,33 % for the final release
+0.01% left for me

They can go find another provider then.

Exactly. Once you have the power to walk away, you won't get taken advantage like op in this case.

With my dealings, it's always my way or the highway. If I don't like the deal and the other party doesn't want to change, I simply walk away.

SOmetimes they come back, but there's always a new deal around the corner which will gladly go my way :D
