I'm sure everyones heard of the new google algorithm for their search index, called "caffeine". The word is its going to get rolled out after xmas, so i've been running some of my more spammy link wheels thru the caffeine index to see if i'm going to get hit with a huge drop in the SERPS after xmas.

here's the direct link to the test datacenter. Please note: it only returns the caffeine index 50% of the time, it looks like they are doing some AB [split] testing.
or try this site for side by side comparison.

remember to run the searchs thru twice because it only returns the caffeine index 50% of the time ;)

I'm seeing a slight devaluing of pligg & blog comment spamming. profile spamming seems to be holding its value if its been slammed with bookmarking. article directory link wheels seems to be doing better. Whats everyone else seeing?

You think this new google algorithm will destroy your linkwheel backlinks? Should i be avoiding linkwheels and just go the regular route than?

I don't actually have a linkwheel made, if someone with a linkwheel site can check this out and report back how much their site has been effected

thanks given. the more people who can report back on how the "caffeine" index is ranking balckhat seo we can all adjust our methods so we don't get hit with any surprises when this new algorithm is rolled out thru all of googles data centers.

Over the years i've been caught with my pants down & i don't want it to happen again ;)

Would this affect all forms of link wheels? Some people use the wheels that have just 5 sites linking 1 to 5 and then 5 to the money page.

What about link wheels that have more sites, that are interlinked and where each link wheel property has been bookmarked and linked to to make it look less like a one hit wonder site that is just being used as part of a link wheel?

I thought that caffeine was already rolled out in September/October this year. That's why a lot of people's sites took a dive. It coincided with the mass banning of adsense sites. Maybe I'm wrong... wouldn't be the first time...

yes, this will affect ALL link-wheels & also every site on the net thats dependent on traffic from google SERPS. This is the new algorithm been tested at one data-center before its rolled out.

If you want the answer to that type of link wheel just run your keyword/s thru the test datacenter and report back

So this looks like it may turn out to be a Google tickle rather than a full blown slap (to start with).

I'm still unsure as to how Google will determine what a link wheel is and wonder, if they do slap the LW's then how many people will be affected when G get it wrong and slap people in error.

Makes me wonder why we all try so hard to please G and just move on over to another engine (if only the searchers did the same then G would be left sitting on its arse having been slapped back)

Here is the deal, I run the biggest link wheel service online . . . . I am also the first to admit that a "link wheel" is just a simple method of linking relevant articles together to kick the search spiders in the pants.

Truth is you can accomplish the same thing a number of different ways.

    For example:

Create Web 2.0 properties, then toss 3 - 5 high PR (relevant) comments on the back side of each property. Then have 3 outgoing links on that single web 2.0 property (1 to an authority source - 1 to an article you control on ezine - 1 to your money site) . . . then of course your ezine should link to your money site.

The biggest point in interlinking is to establish authority and relevancy.

Remember, content is king and thats not going to change.

So if the articles on your web 2.0 sites - article directories are well written, this will be the single biggest determinant to a SERP boost.

    thanks for the infocommercial :)

Link-wheels are only "simple" if thats your way of doing it. No ones stopping you from using Hamiltonian Path based mathematics as a inspiration.

yes i agree that linking is about establishing authority & relevancy...BUT, it shits me no end when people use the cliche of content is king. Content ONLY has meaning via context, and in the artificial world of search engines the principles of the hyperlink & citation is the context. If you fuck that up the content has no value, no matter how well its written.

links are king with google & are the single biggest determinant to a SERP boost.

    I've actually been testing the urban legend of "content is king" for a while by ranking domains with this exact code/content for shits & giggles;
I've also used straight html pages with some content as well, plus <h1>keyword only, & content in a bloated CMS....and it seems page load times pwn's content is king. Maybe i've fucked up the tests...i would love for someone to validate this test, either way, as well.

I have many linkwheels. About 60-70% are successful to some degree. I have 8 that completely dominate their keyword.

I can honestly say that I have never sat down and written a quality article for any of my linkwheels. It's all ripped and spun.

I have run then through the test datacenter for caffeine and their effectiveness, being honest, is lowered by around 5%. Not a problem.

    About the same here!
Results are now about 5-10% lower for all of my keywords ( No I didn't had first places at start anyways)
