Disavowing links HTTPS?

Hello all,

I have a website which runs on HTTPS, and I have always had the non HTTPS version in my WMT until I realised the results were not accurate in there, so I added the HTTPS version instead. This version gives much more accurate WMT data.

Trouble is I had uploaded a disavow file to the non HTTPS version, and out of interest I went into the disavow tool to check if the file was present for the HTTPS version to see if Google just classes any disavow file for the domain as a general file, but to my surprise it wasn't.

So what does this mean? Has my disavow file not counted? I'm scared to upload another one to the HTTPS version in case it has a negative impact on my ranking.. Can anyone shed some light please?

Nobody who can help me out? :o

Maybe I need to post a picture of myself:

I'm pretty sure Google applies the disavow on a domain level. From my understanding they basically take the collection of links and negate any value they are passing to your domain. I can't imagine why they would differentiate for HTTP vs HTTPS as regardless the links should obviously not count towards your site.

Makes sense, I guess that's kinda what I thought deep down too - just wanted some reassurance. Thanks for your reply.

As you are learning the disavow tool doesn't do anything at all. It's just a way for Google to track low quality links and modify their algorithms accordingly.

There are also stories of people disavowing links and then months later getting a link penalty. My guess is they contributed to their own problems.

For disavowing though you should be disavowing on the domain level, Google will in essence apply the disavow to that domain, https or not.

I agree with the demon above, i am pretty sure that Google reads it at the domain level, so you don't have to worry about it. Have you tried removing the links all together though?

Yeah I've been working hard on removing the links, got quite a few removed but the remainder I just added to the disavow and continue to add spammy URLs to the file as they appear.
