Disavow directories?

I recently purchased a site. Looking at its backlink profile, links from directories have been added a few years back. A lot of these directories look old (copyright date is before 2016 on their sites), others look like clones of other directories, just with a different theme and name.

Should I be disavowing these? These links may have worked years ago, but now they look really spammy. It is like they used a free tool to just auto submit to directories. I understand not all directory links are bad (like the ones you pay for and the ones that are curated by an actual person).

I'd work on quality links first and if you don't see an increase in rank then try disavowing those directory links.

Restrict access from websites that have links to yours using htaccess eventually they might remove links...

If I were you, I would just do a wholesale disavowal of all directories.

I know this might seem drastic but given the way Google has been evolving, this is probably the most prudent direction to go.

With that said, there are certain directories that may be worth keeping.

As long as you in their niche and they are all completely localized, then it would make sense to take them out of your disavowal request list.

Other than that, I would completely look the directory back link footprint of the site I bought.

Use the Google's Disavow tool for good result.

But before doing this you can check that your links are really spammy or not.

Because in google old ones will get high rank.
