disavow all backlinks or start new website?

Hey,
I'd be interested to know a little more detail as I have a few sites in a similar situation and face the same decision.
1. Did you receive penalty notices from Google for the site through your webmaster tools account (If you have one?)
2. Has the site been de-indexed, or was it a significant drop in rankings? or both?
Share your thoughts and maybe we can encourage some other members to post any input / experience they may have had from previous penguin updates?

I have a site in a similar situation, I have disavowed all links and started working on a side project in the meantime. If it does not recover by the end of the month I will begin working on replacing it with a new site.
I don't know the specifics of your situation so you will have to judge for yourself if you think the old site can be saved. Good luck

Blast some high pr backlinks and get some web 2.0 backlinks to boost your ranking back to the top.

I suspect this is what got my site penalized in the first place so I wont be doing the same. I have 301'd to a new domain in the hope that it shakes the page specific penalty and will be cleaning up my act in terms of the quality / velocity of links I build to the site.
Will share anything worth reporting as and when it happens.

How much is the algorithm penalty?
If it's severe then I would suggest to try using quality backlinks first, it's better than just disavow all of them.
Even if you disavow, pick up what you will disavow, don't just delete them all.

Smart move IMO, had the same issue a couple of month ago. i 301'd it to a new domain (an aged one), built quality backlinks nice and slowly and got the new sites ranking better than the 1st one within less than 2 months

How will you know when it has recovered? if you have disavowed all links you have 0 backlinks anyway and you should not be ranking anywhere.

I'm targeting low competition keywords that get about 50-300 searches each per month (amazon products). I ranked fine (but slowly) with my first site without building any links just put lots of effort into onsite seo and good content.
Since that first site I got impatient waiting for the sites to rank so started building backlinks to my second site,(web 2.0s, wikis, social bookmarks etc using senuke) which ranked faster but has now been slapped. So I think for low competition keywords, im probably going to see what happens to my site which has good onsite seo but obviously has some spammy backlinks in googles eyes, after they are disavowed.

It depends on how hard you were hit.
In one experiment of mine, a site was not hand penalized, just demoted to page 23 or so, nowhere to be found.
I went in and disavowed every single link to it.....all of them, no quality checks at all, just disavowed everything. It came back based on solely the other signals it had.....
Some have reported top ranking sites in valuable niches(check payday loans): sites are ranking with very few links.....
Google has become Overture...big brands and $$$ are in, links are out.

every site needs different type of seo depending upon niche. check type of links of site ranking #1 . (his site passed from penguin and i will also help your site )

As we haven't seen the OP's site we cannot know but this statement is not true at all in my experience of the update, I had 100% unique content which was producing solid on page user metrics and which the big G knew about as I had the site hooked up to G analytics. Bounce rate, avg time on page, avg pages per visit etc etc were all extremely positive as visitors were really engaging with the useful content.
My conclusions are that is was the backlinks used and the over optimization of anchor text - and this is from a spectrum of sites I have that were hit across a broad range of niches.
Lesson learned, back to the drawing board.

This is probably what i will do. Question is how soon after submitting disavow it will be in force, so i can make fresh start.
I assume backlinks will still show up in ahrefs and other tools and there is no way to know this for sure.
Unless someone has done testing on this and will let us know.

I would do that as well. If you're willing to walk away from the site it's probably worth trying the disavow links approach. Better yet, build another website just to hedge against future updates with 2 ranked sites.

Some really horrible advice in here homeys.
Disavowing all links doesn't work even though some guy made a thread saying it does something.
You will need to either remove the links or try to, or as you said just ditch the site. Its up to you.
I have recovered my sites rankings by removing links and I have another one I'm working on now. Can you fix the sites rankings sure but it takes work to do so.
