Getting a bunch of spam comments on my blogs (Thanks to you a-holes,lol j/k)... should I just disable commenting?

Does having comments on your posts/pages help you out in seo at all?

you can use a plugin that changes those comments to your advantage

or just put a check on you must be registered to comment

Comments and post helps you in getting good PR as it compels users to visit your website on regular basis, so turning it off would not be a good idea. However you can always turn on admin authenticity option and block all spams and comments which can cause serious damage to your website.

Do you have any idea about what your talking about?

I wasn't trying to be ugly to Saulfreddy. He's been a member here for 6 months and has 10 posts. This tells me this person is not serious about the business. What I would do if I was he is soak up as much info here as possible. Get the education in this industry and be a part of the community.

You can get a Masters or a PHD in IM here if you just rub two brain cells together.:)

It's true, this community has been an amazing resource for me.

I will gladly donate when I start having my own successes.

Bad about comment: lot of spam - most of it not only links but also duplicate content even if its a 3 words message (imagine few dozens of those) - so that can negatively impact your rankings.

If you have a lot of spammy comments on your site - it can decrease the amount of true visitors on your site.

If you have a good traffic on your site I would recommend comment moderation before its available to public - loyal visitor will stay, and it will filter down the spammers. And website will attract even more loyal visitors, due to a clean content on it.

Comment section reflects the popularity of your posts. If people are responding to your posts in either way you should show it in your comment section. Indulge in communication with your audience, this will help in strengthening a relationship.

As far as spams are concerned, moderate your comment section manually or make comment link nofollow... this helps in controlling spam in big way.

A couple of thoughts.

First while I do not agree that having comments is needed and it really has nothing to do with PR the argument can be made that having an active site with additional content via good comments can help a sites rankings. I do believe he did not express himself very well though.

Second and I think more important is that you can not make any correlation between how often someone posts and how serious they are about their business. One really has nothing to do with the other, I know I did not post very much my first six months on this forum, first off I spent most of my time reading and gathering info and second I was pretty busy at the time trying to make money using that info. Even now there are some weeks where I post very little if at all depending on what projects I have going on.

So while post count is something to look at when evaluating the info you see and how much weight to give that info, it really gives you no idea of what that person is doing off the forum and to make that connection seems like quite a stretch to me.
