Directory submissions don't create backlinks.

Hi, i tried several submissions offered in the sub forum service for sale. But by using yahoo i don't find the links even after several weeks. Lets say i did 1000 submissions, after 2 months at least 200 submissions have been approved by the directories. But with yahoo i see only 10 of those links.

So i suppose that those directory link pages have very low power that neither google nor yahoo can even detect them. What is about your experience?

My personal experience has been that unless you get a listing in an industry specific directory that is directly related to the theme of your website, most directory listings are a waste of time and energy. I run quite a few websites and it is very rare that a directory listing ever shows up as a backlink. The few that have worked for me were industry specific directories that had good PR. Someone else may have a different experience. As a general rule I find my time better spent getting backlinks from other sources.

Sounds about right.

If you're doing 1,000 directory submissions you're probably submitting to a lot of shit. There's a limited number of good directories out there and the rest rarely show up as having given you a backlink. In fact the number of backlinks showing from directories is continually decreasing as time goes on.

If you're using the same anchor text/ pointing at the same page etc it's even more likely that these directory links aren't being counted. I would focus your energies elsewhere maybe posting to a few quality ones - jayde, joeant, dmoz, yahoo, etc and some industry ones.
 
I agree with that. The directory tehnique doesn't work anymore
 
i agree with how most directories are worthless too but you still would see them in yahoo because the yahoo spiders crawls more pages than google does, one trick i use to check if my link will count is i check if that page is indexed by google if it is than more likely my link will show up in google too
 
Most directories are crap so google treat them like crap. Try to focus on the top ones and save yourself a headache

This topic is popping up more and more recently in many forums.
 
My directory listings show up in Google, so I dunno...a link is a link, as they say.
 
Directory submit is a very good way for increase your rank in google search. For backlinking purpose if you use directory submit that is not going to work. If you have already submitted your website info in 1000 directory, then your google search rank is increased. Like what tags or keywords you have submitted in directory submit. Use those tags or keywords in google search , see the result, in which page your website is listed.

Just recently i have submitted my website to 2000 directory, after one week i continuously see that in some specific keywords my webiste in found in no 1 page of search page.

So directory submit do a lot of work . It is not waste of time.
 
You need a lot of different backlink sources, and directories are one of them. However, no need to subscribre to offers like '1000 submissions for $10', you'll get nothing from that as most of the time those directories aren't indexed or are sandboxed/blacklisted...

Choose your directory according to its ability to survive on the web (old directories) and according to your niche
 
Google algo. is enough intelligent to day to ignore irrelevant links. Anyway,any method to get industry specific directory list?
 
I have n't ever experienced that
it depends on the person who is providing u the service
I myself do the dir submission work but we do it manually
and we have good approval ratio also
u can't count on google for backlinks
to see the actual no. of backlinks u need to use yahoo
and most of our links are indexed by yahoo
if u choose a person who has good pr list but its over 1 year old than I dnt think its worth
bcoz depending on the quality of ur site old dirs dnt approve links quickly
they are slow and they reject many links
so it depends on few factors that submitter should know

I have a business web site, some of its backlinks, that even show up in the firefox/google back link tool come from a website all about cats with the business keyword/link in the side bar.
How is a web site on cats relevent to a business site.?
I have also checked the backlinks, that google recognised, on an insurance web site once, some of the links were hidden in the html of a site for a florist.. :swordfigh

I will share with my BH friends one of the strongest directory listings by far. If you need proof? Go to Yellowpages.com and grab a url from one of the listings and run it through a link checker.

Best of all it's free... and your site will show up in MSN local search, AOL local search, 411.com, Yahoo Local in some states. SHHHH! This is a strong SEO secret tool that you should use. I think you will be surprised. The only downside is that you can expect a bunch of calls from those guys trying to sell you advertising.

Does anybody actually naturally search through web directories? I'd say that's the only way you'd get any benefit from them, and I'd have to say almost nobody searches through directories like this.
 
thing is ... even if your link is approved by the directory that not means spiders crawled this page so far ... to have those links pages crawled you can ping them but it's worthless , you better keep doing it and in time you will see those numbers increasing :P
