Directory submission is really only worth it any more if its niched or provides a more expanded profile that allows you to post your own content and links to your social media profiles.

It is worth to create content or give time to social media campaign rather than doing directory submission and will penalized in the end. Think about it.

Directory submission is good but if links are coming from high PR directories such as not less than PR 4 and try to use niche relevant directories for submission.
