I have a directory website which targets about 1000 cities in USA. most of the cities have no listings (but I added some listings to 150-200 of them), and currently I have only 4 indexed pages... I try to ping via gsc bit it doesn't indexed new pages. What could be reason ? I didn't have Google map Api in place till today , and on location it was only 1 city in map sidebar. Can it be cause of that? now I fixed it and trying to ping again.
or maybe its because not enough listings on the website?

it's funny how bhw became silent these days... IM not so popular nowadays?

Did you build this on a new domain or old expired one?

Did you publish the articles all at once?

And yes, BHW has shifted away from SEO a lot to other forms of IM. This was once primarily an SEO forum but the kids coming up are on to different and more simpler things. Which is kind of good because you can make more money with less competition.

Hehe you have a valid point there.
It was on a new domain, now its 2 month old. I added site to indexer and submitted sitemap at once. It has 10 listings, guess that's the reason there.

Yeah a brand new site having so many pages isn't going to work well. Google has slapped the mass page websites. Some are grandfathered in.

Of course, people are still finding ways to make it work, but it's just not as easy anymore.

You mean directory sites (listing sites) are not as effective as they once were? For the keywords I target however ,1st places are directory sites...and I have "nearme" word inside domain name, so I guess that could be advantage. We'll we ll look what happens.

As mentioned, mass directory sites were huge and then there was an update that clamped down on their effectiveness. Still some people are finding ways to succeed with them. A new domain puts you at a disadvantage.

Check for Technical Issues
Improve Content Quality
Use Canonical Tags
Optimize Meta Tags
Monitor Competitors

Try using any indexer. Or use old methods of indexing through RSS submission.

Google's indexing can be finicky with directory sites, especially if there's thin content. Having many pages with no or few listings could be seen as low-value, triggering Google's quality algorithms. Your recent addition of more listings and fixing the Google Maps API is a step in the right direction. However, indexing isn't just about fixing technical issues.
