Haha! No shit. That's exactly where I'm at. It's not the best, but it's not the worst. Where are you? I boxed out of Carnegie and lived in Watonga for a bit.

That would be AWESOME if you could do that for me! I'm in the same boat with you when it comes to Google's brochures - even though I know I though it's 100% advertising, I still check it out simply because its appealing.

Also, you said in the OP that you sent out a "test letter" - that has no plural? You got a 100% conversion rate? :o

ps - I live in Nebraska but drove down to OKC for their final playoff game against Memphis. Can't get enough of the Thunder!

Totally. I like how simple it is, too.

Yes, I just sent out one that was more of a letter. It included three case studies, one for branding a church (logo, web, identity package), a meat market, and one for just doing some basic SMM for a flower shop. I included pictures of the logos, websites and social media profiles.

I was really interested in doing 7878's ORM idea, but I must sadly admit that I'm not as good at SEO as I would like to be.

And about the 100% conversion rate on the single letter I sent to the chiro, I think it should be more considered luck. Haha. His subscription to ChiroPlanet is about to end. He also isn't the most tech savvy and didn't really know half the things I highlighted on could be done. So we sat down and I just listened. Then when he had a question, I answered it to the best of my ability.

Well, you'll have to let me know when you're down for another Thunder game! I lived in Nebraska for like a year when I was younger.

Sure, I'll just keep checking for this magical website which still hasn't yet appeared :D I looked at your linkedin also, all the sites listed there are down. You say you have worked at one place for 1 year 9 months but the domain was only brought on the 2013-01-06. Is this how you manage your online reputation?
 
What I was doing was transitioning one website to another. Then I realized I wasn't going to be good at ORM due to my lack of ability with SEO and dropped it. I don't really keep my LinkedIn too up-to-date. I'm more of a Facebook guy.

I should start really using it though. Honestly, there's a lot I do wrong. The one thing I do well is build beautiful websites, which is why my focus is back on that.
 
This is exactly what I was planning on doing when I got back to my college town in two weeks. Hope you're successful when it comes down to it and I'd really appreciate it if you'd keep on updating this! Good luc
 
Hey guys and gals! I promise I haven't forgot about this. I just finished a client site and am working on getting the site put together for this lead gen this weekend. Since I've already posted the a picture with the link stupidly placed in it, feel free to check it out once it gets up. Then I'll purchase domain privacy for it like for all of my active domains, mail these out and record the progress.

I'll upload some pictures of how I annotate the printouts of the targets' websites tomorrow or Saturday.

I tried this in the UK, sent 100 letters, high quality, professional looking. I got responses, but saying, they hate it when people do this. I personally think this works well in the US. For UK, I recommend posting in gumtree, local newspapers, social networks etc. UK business owners don't trust people they don't know.

I have them printed out, but now I'm in a mad dash to finish the site for it. Should be up tonight/early morning. If I make good time, I'll go ahead and take some pictures and document it, but if not, I'll do it tomorrow after the site goes up.

I figure no one really likes being solicited even if it's beneficial. I know I don't. But I still consider it when I get mailed something and find it interesting. How did they convert for you in the UK?

I'll be mailing these out Monday with a follow-up call Wednesday or Thursday.
 
The website is done, now I just have to come up with some case studies and a terms (totally forgot I added that to the cards lol) page content. Then I'll add some domain privacy and upload it to my server and collect some leads come Tuesday (hopefully)

Not exactly sure when that will be done, but I'm aiming for tomorrow evening. It's not like any of the brochures I mail out tomorrow will make it to any businesses before Tuesday anyway. All mail here goes to the City first, because our post office doesn't do sorting.

Well, that's what I have going on tomorrow. I also have to Skype with a church in Il. A buddy of mine got a job at one and they need a site done (completely irrelevant to this, but oh well).
 
I managed to get 2 sales. But this was for SEO, which I think can be a harder sell in UK.

I found that after making a good service for one client they would often recommend me to their friends, and before long that will be the best form of marketing

That's good! That's one reason I typically ask if they know of two people that could use my services too. That way even if I don't close that deal, I have two more leads than I did before.

One question: I can't edit my original post, can I? :/
 
Hey guys! Sorry about no update.

Here's what's going on... I'm not doing the above mentioned method anymore! Nor am I going to offer any discounts. I had a meeting with a mentor of mine and I realized that my pricing was wrong.

I thought I was hot stuff for getting four figures for a website, but then I realized that I'm actually better than he is (his words) and he gets five to six. He just does value-based pricing rather than having a set hourly.

After that, I scrapped this, changed my focus and am now in meetings with a company that's looking at dropping a five figure price on me for 1 - 2 month's work.

I'll be writing a post on positioning and pricing shortly.

Would be very very interested in talking to you mate. Thats currently the path im trying to take. I can do very high end work, and want to pull high end clients. No idea how though so would love to hear how you are achieving it!
