Direct Amazon affiliate link vs link shortener in tweet

What's the difference?

For Amazon for example, I saw a lot of affiliates using bit.ly instead of direct linking. I'm sure they must have a very good reason for going the extra steps. Can you clarify what is it? Thanks

with bitly you can count the number of clicks independently of Amazon

Thanks. Do you think they go the extra steps just for that? I suspect it's something related to Amazon/Twitter TOS, maybe engagement but not sure.

Bit.ly makes the link look appealing.

If you make worthwhile profit from this, you should buy a slick .com domain and post that, have it redirect to the Amazon link.

as a pro user you can redirect links, if the target page is no longer accessible, you can simply replace it with another one without changing the Bit.ly link

that will be the reason why it is often used in affiliate marketing

ok thx. I have found out that bit.ly doesn't allow shortening Amazon links anymore, it forces you to use the Amazon short link.

You use bitly but don't spam the links, Amazon can track them

By not spam you mean space out Tweets more, or total quantity of Amazon links on Twitter?
