I dont think VPS setup doesnt have VGA card, and normally linux vps don't support gui, so you cant startx

DigitalOcean is primarily meant for server-like VPS, that means that it's intended for:
- websites and
- web apps

You should really contact their support and ask them if you can actually "startx" like wastonvedades suggested.
