Digital Marketing Manager Job is dead?

Hey guys, sorry for clickbait!

Some time ago I started looking for a remote job in the US. You know, that typical job with Slack, tasks and meetings. I love this stuff and love to interact with people.

You can ask me whaaat why you're not looking for your own online business? I'll tell you. In my country (Poland) your mid salary is really nice money. Also, I got broke after one accident, so it’s no time to build a cool online business, job first.

So I started applying for jobs. 3...5...10...20…30
And nothing. What's going on? Does nobody need a remotely skilled marketer for 20$/h?

I have over 4 years of experience in big companies, a lot of skills and knowledge. PPC, SEO, SMM, WebDev, Email and other staff. How to get hired?

(As I understand, there are a LOT of digital marketers who are looking for a job. If even in Poland we have 100+ candidates for no name companies, I guess what's going on in the US.)

The problem with this job profile is, everyone's jumping on to it, thanks to some 'Digital Nomads' groups on FB. Some people who are good in selling themselves get hired without knowing a damn thing about digital marketing. When supply > demand, this is bound to happen.

What I'm going to suggest is offering your services at a lower rate to some start ups. Majority of them are bootstrapping, anyway. You can always mention that if you get them results you expect a raise. It's better to get started with something rather than waiting for something as per your expectations.

Haha, I promoted several projects such as “Become an Online Marketing Expert'' for good money in the past. In those times I can't even imagine that it will hurt me in the future.

Lover rate for startups - it's a perfect idea. I’ll put them in the cover letter. Especially that hourly rate will grow only after results. Thanks!

Try indeed, lots of remote jobs posted there.

The low entry barrier is a thing like any d can enter in your thing.

Always look out for hard skill which people can't enter easily,like entry barrier.

You have two option.
1 either become exceptional in low entry barrier skills people can't reach that level.
2. Learn the high barrier skills.

And most of the easy job are replaceable.

Good notice. Already adding more high-barrier skills and tools to my CV.
As I know all CVs are reviewed by HR who don't see the difference between CTR and CPA but hope those new skills help. Thanks!

That is more important than any experience or skills you have.

Why not going on your own? Get leads try to get your own clients and make your own little agency.

Agree, for the years I just promoted a client's business without any thoughts about promoting myself. Can you recommend something about “self-selling”? Not those rewritten google articles guides, but some real tips.

Hmm, it's a good idea. I can generate good leads for solar panels for example, but all of this requires a budget. Hope I'll run with this idea letter, but now I need a "starter" for the fits time

Time and perception, if you look professional have good online presence and contact 1M potential clients at least 10 should say yes.

There is no need to rush to buy connects on Upwork. It is better to try to find more suitable job offers in order to spend fewer connections. You are then given 10 points as a gift if you have started a dialogue with a potential client. In any case, finding orders on Upwork is a definite science, but over time you will learn everything. I'm sure of it. The main thing is never giving up!

Try to show results from past experience, or recommendation from previous employee.

If you managed a BIG some of money in-house already, it's very valuable.

Digital marketing has become a term that is abused, so try to specify exactly your skills and past experience.



On the side note, I feel like you but in marketing in general, I can't find a fucking job in this field and I am bored, I am looking right now as my past contract ended and I don't want to work in the administration again.. I have a diploma in marketing and it makes me angry that I can't find an entry in the field

Do you have a marketing or business degree? Almost every US company that pays well expects this as a bare minimum. I believe it’s really hard to get a remote job in the US from Europe or Asia even if you have an amazing CV.

Heyyy...DarkHowl, what a great lines you made for our Poland friend here. That is awesome.

Once you have more than 6 months or 1 year gap in your career. It is very hard to get employed again. Companies would like to to employ a candidate who are already working in corporate. I have experienced such thing in my past. In such case a personal referral would work out.

At remote jobs, you have to compete with everyone and their mother.

Maybe it's just me but building your business is simpler than spending endless hours job hunting. I would try getting local clients.

Yes, time is the most important part of the game. Time and statistics. 10 people from 10M looks like nightmare

Agree, Upwork it's another world with their own rules. But 1-2 clients for 10h/week never hurts. Especially if they pay you 30-40$/h.

Already added numbers and achievements, like revenue and such as before/after my work.

No. I dropped university after my second year, a long story. But I have a proven "method" for this slippery situation.

I have over 3 month gap. When HR ask me about that, I just say that I worked as a freelancer. Hope it's not a crapy idea
About personal refer, thanks, it's a good idea, but in the US I have no friends and contacts (except all you guys).

If you have resources to take 3-4 month vacancy for this business - yes, always better to name own business, I agree.
But if you have regular bills and resources that burning, better to cover ass first. IMHO

Anyway, it's very pleasant to hear all of you in this thread. Here is a little update!

Looks like I don't have any portfolios or personal brand as cool guys have.
But I have all the parts to make something good

• I pick a niche: E-Commerce Facebook Ad Specialist (Don't want to mess with bids and postbacks for now and dickpic banners)
• Selected a scheme: Red/Black and grey style images.
• Created a website like name-surname . com with a nice layout by the color scheme.
• Created an Instagram account with a nice profile pic + write a strong bio and make highlights.
• Make visible all key achievements in CV, create a more graphical CV, not just .doc file as before.
• Write a cover letter FAQ about my experience.
• Buy some course on Udemy about Upwork and Fill the account as they recommended.
• Ask friends / past clients for review or references.

Next steps, I'll put all info about me, rates and services on Instagram and run retargeting ad from website pixel.
And... what's next? I don't know, but I'll plan something. At least, now people can see something about me.
Now I'm not noname anymore.

And here is the results!

+ 1 zoom call with Italy company
+ 1 scheduled call for Monday, remote position
+ 1 big company say that maybe notify me at Monday (I give 80% that they do not call me)
