    Hi

are they two different things ? if the local is 5k searches and global 10k, does that mean that there is 15k people around the world searching for the keyword ? or maybe I'm getting it wrong ?

    Thanks

no you are not getting it wrong.Local is the portion of the global searches that are done in the area you have specified.

    yes exactly:)
In other words imagine that the globe had only three coutries:

A,B,C then the global searches would be A+B+C.So you would see the sum of the traffic in these countries as global and the traffic in each area as local. Simply the global is the sum of the local all around the world.

Local = Estimate number of searches from the area you specified in the Google keyword tool last month.

Global = Average number of searches around the world for the whole year.

That's why local is sometimes greater than global eventhough its sample area is a lot less than global.

They are both monthly as you can see from the labels and they are both calculated as the 12month average.

What adwords say for the local :
    Code:
If you specified a country or language for your search, this is the approximate 12-month average number of user queries for the keyword for those countries and languages
    For the global :
    Code:
The approximate 12-month average of user queries for the keyword on Google.co.uk and the Google Search Network

Actually, the global searches are not monthly but an average of last 12 months. But you can still go ahead and open your travel agency:D, as average figure in most cases in not very far off from monthly figures. The only exception are seasonal keywords. Just make sure you have selected exact match type for keyword being researched.
