Difference Between Online Content

Article and blog -- eh, really no difference. Blogs are usually informal but web content is usually informal.

Web content -- usually, people are looking for content for their web pages/landing pages when they say "web content"

Press release -- this type of content has been bastardized. It's supposed to be a short (maybe 300 words?) announcement that some product or service is being introduced. Many times, people throw cheap junk press releases out for backlinks, and it's as bad as an article submission site

Guest post -- I've done many of these but not in the way I think it's intended. Guest post is supposed to be an article written by someone famous or popular in your industry who writes on your blog. They are popular, so having them on your blog brings you traffic. Guest posts have been bastardized into a "post this article to your blog with my backlink" sort of thing. If it's done right, it's an excellent way to get backlinks, but it costs you big time to get real guest posts. Sometimes, customers ask for guest posts and it means that they want to pay you for a blog post and put your name on it. I'm OK with this as long as they don't think I'll reduce my prices just to have a name on some blog. Real business people understand that they have to pay for an expert guest post.

Are you being asked to write one or are you being asked to post one to your blog? If you are being asked to write one, then you just write a blog post focused on your customer's topic. Most customers who ask for a "guest post" will put your name on it. Some will let you link back to your site in the author profile. Depends on the blog owner whether or not you get a backlink. If you are soliciting them for a backlink, they will charge you. If they are paying you for the content just to fill up their blog, then they might give you a backlink. It really depends on the owner.

If you are being asked to post one on your own blog, then you should be careful what you allow. They usually want to provide the content and it's not normally good content.
